José Álvarez
Biography:
Born in Antilla, Oriente, Cuba (1940). He attended Law School at the Universities of Oriente and Havana, before leaving for the United States in 1969. He obtained a Ph.D. in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida in 1977, remaining as a professor until his retirement in 2004, when he was granted the title of Professor Emeritus. During his academic career, he authored and co-authored more than 300 publications, and received numerous awards. Still involved with the University of Florida as an Adjunct Professor, he resides in Wellington, Florida, with his wife of 47 years, his children and a granddaughter.

Obtuvo un Ph.D. en economía agrícola de la Universidad de la Florida en 1977, permaneciendo como profesor hasta su jubilación en 2004, cuando le fue conferido el título de Profesor Emérito.
